2010 PROGRAM AND APPLICATION

The Norwalk Islands Sailing Fleet is Connecticut area clubs and local sailors dedicated  to  running  a  series  of  races  located  near  the Norwalk  Islands.

 

                

HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE:

 

•           Any boat having a valid PHRF rating certificate on file with the race committee shall be eligible to participate.

 

•           Our 2010 program includes twelve (12) races; two (2) regular day races and ten (10) special invitational trophy races, to include one (1) overnight race, and one (1) women's cup race.

 

•           The Connecticut Shore Series, a combined series of four races, will again continue with the Minuteman Yacht Club Fleet, Norwalk Yacht Club Fleet and the Noroton Yacht Club Fleet joining us.  These four (4) races will combine the four fleets in races, which may also be scored separately for each club's series.  Two (2) races sailed on the NISF courses, one (1) race sailed on NYC courses and one (1) race sailed on the Noroton YC courses.  For NYC and Noroton YC races, their rules, start line, and instructions will govern; for NISF races, NISF rules, start line and instructions will govern.

 

•           Our program includes Spinnaker and Non-Spinnaker Divisions with a minimum of two (2) starts. When we combine with the Noroton YC and Norwalk Yacht Clubs, additional starts may be needed.

 

•           The end of season awards and cocktail party for the combined series will be held at the Norwalk Yacht Club on Saturday, October 16, 2010  6-10 PM.

 

•           The end of season awards and cocktail party for the NISF series will be held on Sunday, November 7, 2010, 3-5 PM at The Shore and Country Club.

 

•           Our sailing program, a wonderful value available on Long Island Sound, is made possible by the volunteer efforts of our many members and the generous support of our sponsors.

 

 

 

 

 

INVITATIONAL RACES:

 

 

·        KING CUP  -  May 29   The overall Spinnaker and Non-Spinnaker Division winners receive the King Cup Trophy for one year, and the first three boats in each division receive keeper trophies.  There will be a party after the race at Minuteman Yacht Club. A CT Shore Series Race.

 

·        CHANTEYMAN CUP  -  June 5   Sponsored by the Norwalk Yacht Club. The first three boats in each division will receive keeper trophies.  There will be a party after the race at Norwalk Yacht Club. A CT Shore Series Race.

 

·        FRIENDS and NEIGHBORS RACE  -  July 10   Sponsored by the Noroton Yacht Club. The first three boats in each division will receive keeper trophies.  There will be a party after the race at Noroton Yacht Club. A CT Shore Series Race

 

·        WOMEN'S CUP  -  August 14   Sponsored by Sprite Island Yacht Club. Keeper trophies will be provided for the first three places in each division. There will be a party after the race at Sprite Island Yacht Club.  (The results from this race are not counted as part of the NISF series.)

 

·        EVENING RACE  -  August 21-22   Sponsored by the Saugatuck Harbor Yacht Club. A traveling trophy will be awarded to the overall winner and keeper trophies will be awarded to the first three boats in each division.

 

·        GREENS LEDGE CUP – August 28   Sponsored by the Norwalk Yacht Club. The first three boats in each division will receive keeper trophies. The after race party will be at The Norwalk Yacht Club.  

 

·        MAYOR'S CUP/SHEFFIELD ISLAND RACE -  September 11  The Division I winner receives the Mayor's Cup for one year, Division II and III winners receive traveling trophies donated by the Norwalk Seaport "Save Sheffield Island" Committee. Keeper trophies will be awarded to the first three boats in each division.  An after race party and awards presentation will be held at the Shore and Country Club.

·        STANLEY PHILCOX MEMORIAL RACE  -  September 18   This race is in honor of P/C Stanley G. Philcox. Traveling trophies (donated by the Philcox Family) are awarded to the first place winners in each division and keeper trophies are awarded to the first three boats in each division.  A traditional after race party and awards presentation will be held at the Shore and Country Club. A CT Shore Series Race

·        R.G. Ely Challenge  CUP – September 25  Sponsored by the Wilson Cove Marina. The first three boats in each division will receive keeper trophies. The after race party will be at The Wilson Cove Marina.

 

·        PARTNERS CUP – October 2    Sponsored by Partner’s Café in East Norwalk where an after race party will be held. Hot Pizza and Irish Coffee are on the menu.

As a qualifying condition for participating in any such race, the undersigned hereby waives any and all claims against the race committee and/or any other party in the organization or sponsorship of such race, relating in any way to the participation of their yacht or crew in such race.
